Lift Your Eyes is an iPhone app that helps you memorize Bible verses while you use your phone less. It is made by Oscar Nogueira Neto, an individual developer based in Florida, USA ("we", "us").

The short version: Lift Your Eyes has no accounts and no server for your data. Your verses, your progress and the apps you choose stay on your iPhone. The only thing that ever leaves it is a message you choose to send us with "Send feedback".

What stays on your iPhone

Lift Your Eyes keeps the following on your device only. We never receive it.

  • Your settings: Bible translation, verse set, blocking window, unlock time and appearance.
  • Your memorization progress: for each verse, its level, when it is next due for review, and your past answers.
  • Your activity in the app: when you unlocked apps with a review, when you tapped "Not now" on the pause screen, and when you used the emergency exit.
  • Your subscription status: whether you have an active subscription or free trial and when it ends, as read from Apple (see "Purchases" below).
  • A short technical log of recent events, such as when blocks turned on or off. It is limited in size, older entries are removed, and it is never sent anywhere.
  • Feedback you have not sent yet: an unfinished draft, or a message waiting for a connection (see "Feedback" below).

Some of this is stored in a shared container (an "App Group") so that the parts of the app that iOS runs in the background, such as the pause screen, can read it. That container is on your iPhone and belongs only to Lift Your Eyes.

Like other app data, this information can be included in backups of your iPhone (iCloud Backup or a computer) if you have backups turned on. Those backups are handled by Apple or by you, not by us. Deleting Lift Your Eyes deletes this data from your iPhone.

Screen Time

Lift Your Eyes uses Apple's Screen Time features (Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity) to pause the apps you choose. You give permission once, and you can confirm it with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.

  • You pick apps, categories or websites in Apple's own picker. Apple then gives Lift Your Eyes opaque tokens instead of your choices. A token lets the app ask iOS to pause something, but it does not tell the app what that something is. Our code cannot read the names of the apps, categories or websites you chose.
  • When the app shows the name or icon of an app you unlocked, iOS draws it on screen for you. The name is not passed to our code and is not stored or sent anywhere.
  • The app does not read your Screen Time usage. It does not see how long you use other apps, which apps you open, or your browsing history.
  • The tokens stay on your iPhone. They are never sent to us or to anyone else.

You can turn off Lift Your Eyes' access at any time in iOS Settings > Screen Time, or by deleting the app. Either way, iOS removes the blocks.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, Lift Your Eyes schedules them on your iPhone. There are two kinds:

  • "Review a verse": shown when you tap "Review a verse" on the pause screen. It may name the verse you are about to review (for example, "Tap to review Psalm 23:1."). It is marked time sensitive so that a Focus does not hide it.
  • Free trial reminder: one reminder the day before your free trial ends.

These are local notifications. We do not use a push notification service, and nothing about them is sent to us.

Purchases

Lift Your Eyes offers a free 7-day trial followed by a yearly subscription, sold through the App Store. Apple handles the payment.

  • We do not receive your name, email address, Apple Account or payment details.
  • The app asks Apple, on your iPhone, whether your subscription or trial is active and when it ends. It keeps a copy of that status on your iPhone so blocks can stop when access ends.
  • Apple provides us with sales and subscription reports, which do not include your name, email address or payment details.
  • Apple's handling of your purchase is covered by Apple's own privacy policy.

Feedback

"Send feedback" in Settings is the only way Lift Your Eyes sends information to us, and it only sends when you tap Send.

What is sent:

  • Your message (required, up to 4,000 characters).
  • Your email address, only if you type one. It is optional and used only to reply to you.
  • App and device info, only while "Include app and device info" is on. It is on by default, and the form shows the exact values before you send: the app version and build, the iOS version, the iPhone model identifier (for example "iPhone17,3") and the app's color theme.

Each message also carries a random ID, so it is not stored twice if it is resent, and the time you wrote it.

What is never sent: your verses, your progress, your verse sets, your blocking windows, the apps, categories or websites you block, your subscription status, your location or your language.

How it travels and where it is kept:

  • The message is sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to a small service we run on Cloudflare (Cloudflare Workers). It is stored in a Cloudflare database (Cloudflare D1).
  • A copy is emailed to our support inbox, which is hosted by Google. If you gave an email address, our reply goes to it.
  • To deliver the request and to limit abuse (no more than 10 messages per minute from one network address), Cloudflare processes your IP address. We do not store your IP address with your message. Our service's logs record only the message ID and whether it was stored, never the message or your email address. Cloudflare may keep technical request records for a short time under its own privacy policy.
  • If you are offline, the message waits on your iPhone and is sent later. Messages that cannot be sent within 30 days are deleted from your iPhone unsent.

How long we keep it: we keep feedback messages, and the email copies, for up to 12 months, then delete them. We may keep a message longer only if it is part of an ongoing conversation with you.

Deleting your feedback: email us at support@liftyoureyes.app and tell us roughly when you wrote and, if you gave one, the email address you used. Because messages are not tied to an account, those details help us find yours. We will delete it from our database and our inbox.

Feedback is used only to answer you and to improve Lift Your Eyes. It is not used for advertising and is not sold or shared with anyone else.

No tracking, no ads, no analytics

  • Lift Your Eyes does not track you across apps or websites, and it does not ask for permission to track.
  • It shows no ads and contains no advertising or analytics code from other companies.
  • It does not collect usage statistics. [IF ANALYTICS IS ADDED LATER, THIS SECTION CHANGES BEFORE THAT VERSION SHIPS.]

If you turned on "Share With App Developers" in iOS Settings, Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics with us. Apple controls that setting and what it includes, and you can turn it off at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.

Bible texts

The verse texts in the app (King James Version and World English Bible) are in the public domain and are included in the app. Reading or reviewing verses does not contact any server.

This website

liftyoureyes.app is a static website hosted on Cloudflare. It uses no cookies, no analytics scripts and no tracking. Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver the pages and to protect the site from attacks, and shows us aggregate traffic statistics (such as page views and countries), which do not identify you.

Children

Lift Your Eyes is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The feedback form is the only way information reaches us. If you believe a child sent us personal information through it, contact us and we will delete it.

Your choices and rights

  • Everything except feedback is on your iPhone, under your control. Deleting the app deletes it.
  • For feedback you sent, you can ask us to access, correct or delete it. Depending on where you live (for example, in the European Union, the United Kingdom or California), you may have these rights by law. We will not treat you differently for using them.
  • We do not sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined in California law.
  • Our service providers (Cloudflare and Google) may process feedback outside your country.

Changes to this policy

If what Lift Your Eyes collects changes, we will update this page and the date at the top before that version of the app is released, and we will explain the change in the app's release notes.
